Types of Wood
Whether it’s exotic woods, softwoods, composite woods, or hardwoods, these different categories of wood do not have the same characteristics or qualities.
Softwoods
Rich in resinous matter, this type of wood is particularly appreciated for its ease of working and light tones. Among the various types of softwoods, we can mention spruce, pine, Douglas fir, etc.
Exotic Woods
Exotic woods come from forests in Africa, South America, or Oceania. They are valued for giving a deck a specific colour or for use in furniture construction, among other things. Ipe, cumaru, and padauk are some examples of exotic woods.
Hardwoods
With exciting properties, hardwoods represent an excellent alternative to exotic woods. Hardwood species are often used for building house frames and structures. Oak and chestnut are part of this category.
Composite Woods
Composite woods are a good alternative in terms of environmental impact. Made up of several components (plastic material, plant fibres, mineral filler, etc.), they are less slippery, rot-proof, strong, and require less maintenance.
Factors That Influence the Price of Hardwood Flooring
Several factors can influence the price of installing hardwood flooring. These include:
 |
The moisture level of the surface to be covered, |
 |
The surface area of the rooms where the flooring will be installed, |
 |
The nature of the work (stairs, floors, multiple cuts, etc.), |
 |
The condition of the materials used (new or pre-finished, among others), |
 |
The condition and type of subfloor (compressed wood panels, plywood, or particleboard). |
Other factors, such as the planks’ width, the work’s timing, or the promotions of installation professionals, can also affect the price. Lastly, the cost of installation also depends on supply and demand.
